If you have been looking into different page builders, you may have come across Kartra and Unbounce. While both platforms are great, using the wrong one could harm your business’ growth or waste a lot of your money.
Luckily, this article is a complete Kartra vs Unbounce comparison to help you find the best platform for your business.
Here's what we'll cover...
Kartra is a quite new funnel and marketing automation platform that launched in 2018. Despite it being quite new, it has already become very popular with the internet marketing community, and many business owners have already made the switch.
Kartra was made by Genesis Digital, the same company as WebinarJam and EverWebinar, which are also popular SaaS tools for online businesses.
What makes Kartra different from most other tools on the market is the number of features it provides you with. But we’ll talk more about that later on…
Unbounce is one of the most popular landing page builders on the market. It’s known for being easy to use so that anyone can use it while being robust enough for large enterprise businesses.
Some of the companies that have used Unbounce include Helix, Later, and Campaign Monitor, which I am sure you have heard of before.
Unlike Kartra, Unbounce has been around for much longer as it was founded in 2009 before landing pages became big.
Which Has The Better Features?
Now it’s time to see what both of these platforms have to offer in terms of features. We’ll look at Kartra first, then see how Unbounce compares.
As already mentioned in Kartra’s about section, one thing that sets this platform apart from most others is the number of tools it provides. Let’s take a deeper look at them.
Kartra Page Builder & Templates
Kartra’s first core feature is its page builder, which comes with a range of templates that you can easily edit. I was quite impressed by the number of templates, the different styles, and the number of different pages it has templates for.
The page builder is also straightforward to use and works the same as most other platforms. The way it works is that you can drag the elements into the sections.
Something that I like about Kartra’s page builder is that you can embed the pages anywhere using the HTML code. Apart from that, it’s pretty standard, but decent.
Kartra also has a built-in checkout tool, which lets you create checkouts that you can embed into any of your Kartra pages. It also comes with one-click upsells, downsells, and order bumps so that you can make several sales from just one visitor.
Kartra Mail & Forms
To help you convert your leads into customers, Kartra also has a built-in email and SMS marketing tool. This was another feature that I was impressed by, as it offers everything a dedicated platform.
The automation sequences have a rich selection of triggers you can use to send more targeted images. Plus, it can track your visitors’ behavior in the other Kartra features and use that as a trigger for your emails. For example, if they’re an affiliate or watch a video, you can send an email based on this.
It also comes with forms, and newsletters, so you should have everything you need to run effective email marketing campaigns.
Kartra Memberships & Video Hosting
Just like some of its competitors, Kartra also has built-in membership sites. However, the cool thing about Kartra is that it has built-in video hosting, meaning you won’t have to use an external video hosting platform.
Both the video hosting and membership site features are like dedicated platforms. For example, on the videos you host, you can also add CTAs and headlines.
Kartra Funnels & Campaigns
One of my favorite things about Kartra is its funnels & campaigns.
The first cool thing about this is that you can share your entire campaign, i.e., every asset you create inside Kartra. For example, if you have an agency, you could build an entire campaign in your Kartra account, and your clients could access it by entering the code you give them. Or, you could sell your own templates too.
Another thing that I like about this feature is the pre-built campaigns for almost any type of business. Plus, some of them are by highly influential marketers like Frank Kern.
Kartra Affiliate Management + Marketplace
Kartra has one of the best affiliate management tools in the industry. It’s even better than a lot of dedicated platforms, which is highly impressive. The reason for this is that you have so many options allowing you to create a lot of different types of affiliate programs.
What I like most about Kartra’s affiliate management is that you can create cost-per-action (CPA) affiliate programs; you can pay affiliates when their visitors enter an email address. So, once you know the average value of a lead for your business (which Kartra analytics shows you), you can pay your affiliates a $ amount under this and grow your business effectively.
With Kartra’s affiliate management tool, you can
- Subscribe and tag your affiliates
- Set custom payment milestones
- Open and closed affiliate programs
- Use Paypal Adaptive Payments to pay affiliates faster
- Set up several commission tiers
- Set commissions globally or product by product
Built into Kartra is also an affiliate marketplace where you can upload your products. Affiliates can then apply to promote it, which means you can get partners to promote your products easily and for free.
Or, if you want to become an affiliate for products yourself, you also have access to a library of high-quality products.
Kartra’s analytics are super-comprehensive. Not only does it show you detailed information like, for example, the value of your leads… It does this for every feature inside of Kartra. For example, for membership sites, you can see the average number of videos your students watch or see which videos don’t engage them.
With Kartra, you can connect helpdesks to all of your pages and membership sites. This makes it easier for your customers to contact you and helps you provide better customer support. Kartra helpdesks support ticketing and email support.
The last core Kartra feature is its calendar tool, which helps you schedule your appointments. If you have ever used Calendly, this is basically the same thing. If you’re a consultant or have a service-based business, having this calendar feature would definitely be useful.
Kartra sets a pretty high standard when it comes to features. Let’s look at how Unbounce compares. But keep in mind that it doesn’t aim to be an all-in-one marketing platform, but instead just a landing page builder.
Landing Page Builder + Templates
Unbounce’s main feature is, of course, its landing page builder and the templates that come with it. The platform is known for its landing page builder because it’s strong enough that large enterprise businesses can use it while being extremely user-friendly.
When using the page builder, I found this to be true. It works slightly differently from other page builders like Kartra.
With Kartra, you can only drag the elements into blocks pre-made on the page. However, Unbounce lets you freely drag elements anywhere you want. This is a minor thing, but it is an advantage that Unbounce has.
Apart from that, the only advantage Unbounce has is slightly faster-loading pages.
The templates are also very nice, as you would expect. However, Kartra has templates for a wider variety of pages.
Pop-ups and Sticky Bars
Unbounce also comes with pop-ups and sticky bars that you can add to your pages. This is pretty standard, but it comes with many advanced options to help you decide where these will convert best.
Finally, Unbounce also has a smart traffic feature that will allow your pages to automatically adapt to your visitors’ behavior, such as the search terms they use. Kartra has a similar feature called behavior-adaptive-marketing, but Unbounce’s one is a little more advanced and gives you more options.
Advantage: Kartra. Unbounce has some amazing features for landing pages, but Kartra does a lot more. The few benefits of Unbounce do not outweigh all of the additional tools that Kartra provides you with.
How Much Does Each Cost?
Next, we will take a look at the costs both Kartra and Unbounce come at so that you can find the best option for your budget.
Kartra has four main pricing plans ranging from $99 per month to $499 per month. All plans also have annual discounts of 25% available. The cool thing about Kartra’s pricing plans is that all features are available on every plan, apart from Kartra Agency.
The Kartra Agency feature is available on the Silver plan and up, which will help you manage your clients’ accounts.
You can check the full pricing table with the number of resources available on each plan below.
Unbounce also has four pricing plans, but they range from $80 to $300 per month.
The main difference between their pricing is that Unbounce sets more limits for their users, despite having fewer features. Each plan also comes with a limit on conversions and visitors, which Kartra’s plans do not.
You can check out the full pricing plans below. Conversions, in this case, mean any action, so even when your lead enters their email address, it counts as one.
Advantage: Kartra. Unbounce starts at a lower price, but Kartra’s pricing plans have fewer limits and more features. That’s a clear advantage for Kartra.
Everything Else You Need To Know About Kartra and Unbounce
Now that we have covered both platforms’ features and pricing let’s look at everything else you need to know about Kartra and Unbounce.
Which Is Easier To Use?
Kartra is relatively user-friendly, but it can be slightly overwhelming because of the number of features.
Unbounce, on the other hand, is more straightforward because there is really just one feature. Therefore, it does have a slight advantage here.
Which Has Better Support?
While Kartra has a great support team of helpful specialists, they do not offer live chat (just email and ticketing). That being said, I found them to be extremely helpful when I have ever had a problem.
Unbounce, on the other hand, offers live chat, so I would say it has the advantage.
Which has more Integrations?
As you’d probably guess, Unbounce has more integrations. But this is only the case because it has a lot fewer features — so it needs the integrations.
Which Has Better Templates?
Unbounce and Kartra both have a selection of beautiful landing page templates. However, the main difference between them is that Kartra has a much wider variety in terms of types of pages. Therefore, Kartra has the advantage here.
Which Has The Better Page Builder?
Both of their page builders are outstanding.
The main advantage that Unbounce has is that it can drag elements literally anywhere, so it feels slightly smoother. However, Kartra’s page builder has the advantage that you can embed the pages anywhere, as long as you can paste the HTML code. So, your Unbounce pages are locked inside the platform, while Kartra’s aren’t.
Additionally, Kartra’s page builder also lets you build membership sites, although this is strictly seen in another feature. But overall, I would say that Kartra’s advantages slightly outweigh those of Unbounce, although it’s very close.
My Final Thoughts
I hope you have enjoyed this comparison between Kartra and Unbounce. While I like both platforms, I think that overall, Kartra is the winner. That being said, it’s not necessarily the best option for you because it may not suit your needs.
To help you decide whether Kartra or Unbounce is better suited for you, I explained why you should choose which option below.
Why Choose Kartra
Kartra is amazing at what it does, giving business owners all the marketing and online business tools they need in one platform. There isn’t really another software on the market that offers the same level of email marketing, affiliate management, and other tools that Kartra offers for the same price.
Not only this, but most of the tools inside of Kartra are also just like a dedicated platform. So, if you’re looking for the features that Kartra provides, you can definitely use the platform to grow your business.
Plus, Kartra will also help you save hundreds of dollars per month, as it provides the tools for a lower cost.
Why Choose Unbounce
Unbounce is also amazing at what it does; landing pages.
If you are looking for a dedicated landing page builder and want to build the best possible landing pages only, Unbounce is a great option. If you have an enterprise-sized business, the tools inside, like smart traffic, could significantly impact your conversions.
